Mike Mangini has taken the world of drumming by storm. He's toured the world, generously provided educational clinics to thousands of drummers, and cemented his place in the history of the greatest rock and progressive drummers. Even more impressive is his approach, as he's a true theorist on rhythm with his own learning system titled "Rhythm Knowledge."
Mangini's role in joining acclaimed artists like Annihilator, Extreme, Steve Vai and U.K. are extraordinary, but his role in Dream Theater has brought a new dimension to an already legendary career.
As millions can attest, his drumming with Dream Theater continues to marvel musicians and fans worldwide. His performances are jaw dropping. He's added a unique rhythmic personality into the band's sound that is powerful. He executes his role as drummer with extraordinary seriousness and dedication.
As he ventures into the art work with this debut collection, he brought this same focus into the visuals that now mark this unique art debut. And as seen in this artwork built from rhythm, his commitment to dexterity, shapes, and his unique approach is truly inspiring when visually translated. The result is a collection that speaks to the power of time-developed skill.
This collection of artwork, titled "Symmetry Beyond Planck," is a career first for Mike Mangini. Crafted over the last year, Mangini is one of a highly select series of drumming pioneers building fine artwork from rhythm. The medium, we call "Rhythm-On-Canvas." An extraordinary effort from start to finish, the work is intended to unfold over time for viewers as they live with the pieces in their homes and studios.
This work is designed to be vibrant, abstract and display the distinct artform found within Mangini's rhythmic approach, from sound to sight. Through this process, Mangini is working with drumsticks that light in a variety of ways much like a painter would use paint with oils or acrylics. His movements throughout the beats are similar to paintstrokes. Working with art team/publisher SceneFour, these elements are brought into a studio as color channels and movements are scrutinized meticulously to bring forth Mangini's intended visual for an extraordinary final image before it is laid to canvas.
In total, 10 different works are released in this collection, with each rhythmic form conceptualized and named by Mike Mangini. Each piece is available in small editions and individually signed by Mike Mangini. All are available worldwide to collectors through www.mikemanginiart.com. Each includes a Certificate of Authenticity by SceneFour.
